What can organisations learn from a sport in crisis? This morning we welcomed figures from politics, industry and law to an exclusive breakfast briefing: Former Secretary of State for Sport, Baroness Nicky Morgan, in conversation with Mark Leftly, Head of Public Affairs at Powerscourt – with a special guest appearance from the one and only Azeem Rafiq.
Azeem first spoke publicly about racism at Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 2020. The gruelling three-year legal, media and political battle that followed brought racism in cricket into the national consciousness – and posed serious questions for the game’s future.
Guests heard how Powerscourt supported Azeem in his quest for justice and to rescue the sport from racism, and considered the role played by politicians and the media.
